Join us for our discussion of The Sweetness of Water by Nathan Harris. This lauded debut historical novel takes place just after the end of the Civil War, in a small town in Georgia. The story primarily revolves around the two recently freed brothers, the farmer George that hires them, and his wife Isabelle. It explores what it could have been like for slaves as they experienced the first hours, days…and months of life in freedom. The fears, uncertainty…mistrust, intertwined with the lives and experiences of the family that offers them their first humane treatment.
