7:00pm - 9:00pm

Event Type

An in-person chocolate tasting and learning experience including light snacks following Havdalah. Take a trip down to the Amazon jungle of Peru and meet the wild family of cacao. The presentation by Matthew Block will follow the cultivation, collection, fermentation and drying of cacao as well as its botanical cousins in the forests of Peru. With an introductory teaching on Judaism and chocolate by Rabbi Josh Breindel.

Matthew Block has worked on dozens of organic farms in the U.S. and South America. In Peru, he learned how to cultivate and process many crops including cacao from generations of campesinos (rural farmers). In 2016, when he began importing cacao, he learned traditional European-style chocolate making from Eric at Somerville Chocolate. He founded Prophecy Chocolate in 2019 to create high-quality craft chocolate using direct trade ingredients.

Cost is $36 per person and registration is required. For more information, email Lisa Korklan. Sponsored by the Beth El Adult Ed Committee.
